TONIGHT Something worth SHOUTing about.

3 Nov

This year we were lucky enough to get invited to the premier of SHOUT in the Hague, for the movies that matter festival.

The Movies that Matter Festival has taken the place of the Amnesty International Film Festival, ten editions of which took place in Amsterdam. In 2009 the festival moved to The Hague, city of peace and justice.

The Movies that Matter Festival is the Netherlands’ main platform for engaged cinema, with dozens of documentaries and movies of inspired film makers being screened every year. Films that stir the debate about human rights, human dignity and situations where these are at stake.

And on of those film makers Ester Gould invited us to watch her film and inspired us with SHOUT. This is one beautiful piece of film making, with a great heart wrenching story behind it, that is pure and real life.

The film will be showing in selected cinema’s in the Netherlands in November, and I seriously urge you to watch this film.

Shout

Ester Gould / Sabine Lubbe Bakker

‘Shout’ follows soul mates Ezat en Bayan who are on the verge of setting out on a journey they have dreamt of ever since they were little. The two friends were born on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, and have lived near the border with their home country Syria all their life. Turning eighteen, they can finally go and study in the Syrian capital Damascus. They say goodbye to family and friends and hit the road. At first, Ezat and Bayan enjoy their new freedom in Damascus. The Syrian capital gradually reveals itself as an individualist place, though, in which it is not always easy to feel at home. And where one has to be careful about what one says. What started as an adventure turns into a dilemma that forces them to choose between the future they always dreamt of and the secure environment they left behind.
